Los Flamboyanes Bacalar - Area Information

Getting There
The closest airport to Bacalar is in Chetumal, and it is about 30 minutes south from Los Flamboyanes. Air Canada, American Airlines, and Mexicana all have flights that connect and fly into Chetumal. In addition, there is currently an international airport located in Cancun, 4 hours north, and the Mexican government is going to develop an additional airport in Tulum; 1 ½ hours to the north of Bacalar.  There are also extensive bus lines that leave from Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Tulum, Chetumal, as well as the interiors of Mexico that can get you to your final destination of Bacalar. So whether you want to fly into Chetumal, take a first class bus, or take a meandering road trip down the coast from Cancun, there are plenty of ways to get to the paradise known as Laguna Bacalar.

Shopping
The state capital of Chetumal is just a 30 minute drive south and Chetumal comes with everything you would expect from a capital city. You can enjoy shopping, fine restaurants, movie theaters, local markets, parks, and of course plenty of quality people watching as well.  In addition to local markets there are the bigger chains like Sam’s Club, and the Plaza Las Americas mall as well as all government and city offices.

If you enjoy shopping you can simply cross over into Belize where you will have an entirely new shopping experience in what is called the “free zone”. The “free zone” is actually the area between Belize and Mexico and offers extensive duty free shopping from candles to coconut rum! Belize also has plenty to offer for weekend getaways, traveling, exploring, fishing, and world class diving.

Ruins
If you are the adventurous type, and would like to experience the less trafficked ruins in the area; there are plenty to choose from. It is estimated that there are as many as 6,500 Mayan ruins on the Yucatan peninsula, and there are quite a few just a brief drive from Laguna Bacalar.   Just a 45 minute drive from Bacalar you will be one of the very few people who will explore the ruins of Kohunlich as well as the seldom seen Maya ruins of Chacchoben, Dzibanche, Becan and Chicanna.  So if you are an archeological buff these ruin sites are the perfect places to enjoy off the beaten path ruins without having to compete with large crowds.

Diving
There is world class scuba diving just a stone’s throw away from Bacalar for those of you who love under water exploration and adventure. Roughly 100 kilometers (60 miles) to the East of Bacalar is the beautiful beach town of Majahual, which is a relaxing small beachside community that has access to some of the most spectacular dive sites along the northern Caribbean Barrier Reef. If you would like to experience diving in Belize you have easy access as it is only about an hour south of Laguna Bacalar. Belize has some of the best diving along the southern Caribbean Barrier Reef, so if you are a dive aficionado and like unique, untouched dive spots, both Majahual and Belize come highly recommended for underwater adventures.

Los Flamboyanes Bacalar will give you access to all of this and more. You will be in a custom built home in a premiere environmentally friendly neighborhood with plenty of privacy, expansive green spaces, a water front park, all the while increasing the return on your investment.
